Seeking Professional Help

This post is going to be different from all of my other posts. I didn’t have any epiphany to get me to the point of writing this, I simply have to say what I have to say.

Life is really hard right now for some people. It just is. If you are experiencing a decline in your mental health, please, please, please, know that your wellbeing is WAY more important than caring about what anyone thinks.

If you need professional help, be it a therapist, medication, or even need to be admitted to a hospital, I cannot personally think of anything more courageous than asking for help when you need it. To say, “You know what? I’m not okay, actually. I need assistance because I cannot do this on my own anymore,” should be just as normal as saying, “I’m going to the doctor to treat my infection.”

My posts are meant to inspire, motivate, encourage, and uplift you. I don’t write anything thinking, “this will inspire so-and-so”. I write about what inspires me in hopes of it inspiring you.

With that said, you can read every inspirational quote, post, book, try every single coping mechanism out there, journal down every one of your thoughts, remove all toxicity from your life, have the healthiest of lifestyles, and STILL struggle.

I do not want to be someone who promotes all this frilly nonsense and neglects to say that there are times when nothing inspirational matters at all. A chemical imbalance cannot be cured with a motivational quote. I eat up the corny, sappy shit, and I can’t imagine a time I cast that part of me aside. But I also cannot omit the fact that medical help and professional guidance are not only okay, sometimes they are the best options.

People are struggling right now. It’s almost been a full year since we’ve been in quarantine. Take care of yourself in any and every way that feels right to you. Take care of your friends and family. And please, for the love of all that’s good in this world, respect people’s decisions to get medicated or seek professional help. You have no idea what people deal with, and if you’re lucky enough to be mentally okay throughout this time, give people the space to work through their demons without judgement.

We are a complicated species, and there is an exorbitant amount of stuff we have to mentally process. If you do not have all the tools or chemical makeup to get through something on your own, get the medical help you need. If you are scared shitless of what people will think of you, (not that it’s worth much at all) know that I think those who seek help are among the bravest.

I just wanted to say: reading my posts or any inspirational garbage will not treat a wound that needs stitching. I will be here, as will every other motivational account/book, when you can swallow our words with ease. Take care of you, first.
